FOUR GREAT PASSES IN VIETNAM

The Northwest region of Vietnam is known for its majestic and poetic mountain ranges. The highlight is Four Great Passes, include of pass Ma Pi Leng, O Quy Ho, Pha Din và Khau Pha. Read this post for more information

 

Ma Pi Leng Pass

Ma Pi Leng Pass has a length of 20km and an altitude of about 1.200 – 1.400 meters above sea level that is the most dangerous road in the Northern mountains. The road connecting Ha Giang city with Dong Van and Meo Vac town is called Happiness Road. This road was built by thousands of people in the Northern mountainous region during the six years (1959-1965), especially in the Ma Pi Leng mountain section, the workers had to hang on the cliff to work for 11 months

Ma Pi Leng Pass was recognized as a national scenic relic in 2009. From Ma Pi Leng mountain peak, you can see the whole area with majestic mountains as beautiful as a picture.

 

O Quy Ho Pass

O Quy Ho Pass or Hoang Lien Son Pass is the boundary between the two provinces of Lao Cai and Lai Chau of Vietnam that is located at an altitude of nearly 2000m above sea level, which is also a record pass in the Northwest mountains the length of 50km, with this height and length O Quy Ho Pass is known as “Pass King of the Northwest in Vietnam”

 

Pha Din Pass

Pha Din pass or Pha Din slope is located between Son La and Dien Bien provinces in Vietnam. Pha Din has the meaning of the intersection between heaven and earth. The peak of the pass is 1.648 m, about 32km in length that is also one of the most winding and steepest roads in Vietnam.

 

Khau Pha Pass

Khau Pha Pass is located in Yen Bai province of Vietnam. Khau Pha Pass is the longest and most dangerous on highway 32 with a length of 30km, an altitude of 1200-1500m above sea level. The best time to see from Khau Pha Pass is during the ripe rice season in October.
