VIETNAM ETHNOLOGY MUSEUM IN HANOI

About 8km from the center of Hanoi city, the Vietnam Ethnology Museum is a must-see destination when visiting Hanoi. This place is considered as a vivid picture miniature of the lifestyle, culture, creativity of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam.

 

Location: Nguyen Van Huyen, Quan Hoa, Cau Giay, Hanoi

Opening hours: 8.30am – 17.30pm (closed on Monday)

Vietnam Museum of Ethnology was designed by Ha Duc Linh and Veronique Dollfus (French). The museum is divided into three main display areas:

  • Trong Dong building
  • Outdoor display area
  • Southeast Asia building

The exhibition area is arranged scientifically visitors can easily learn about each different ethnic group.

 

Trong Dong building

The indoor display area has 2nd floors with an area of 2,500m2, shaped like a bronze drum – a common symbol of Vietnamese civilization as well as many countries in the region. Trong Dong building, there are 15.000 artifacts, 42.000 movies and photos describing daily life, costumes, tools and customs of the ethnic minorities.

 

Outdoor display area

The outdoor display area is located on the spacious grounds of the museum. There are many house architectures of ethnic minorities such as the Ede longhouse, the Tay stilt house, etc.

 

Southeast Asia building

The building is built in a kite-shaped architecture that is not only familiar in Vietnam but also in the ASEAN region. The kite represents dream and freedom. This area displays Southeast Asian culture, Indonesian glass paintings, a glimpse of Asia and around the world

 

In addition, visitors can purchase souvenirs at the booths of publications, tapes, and souvenirs at the main entrance of the Museum.
